2026 SMPS Sacramento Chapter Bylaws Updates

We need your vote!

The SMPS Sacramento Board of Directors recently approved proposed updates to the Chapter Bylaws and is now submitting them to the membership for approval, as required by our current bylaws.

The primary purpose of these updates is to align the chapter with changes made by SMPS Headquarters, including the transition of the fiscal year from September–August to January–December. As part of this update, related chapter dates for board terms, nominations, elections, and leadership transitions were revised accordingly.

The proposed bylaws also clarify the chapter’s election procedures by formally adopting the slate election method currently used by SMPS Headquarters and many SMPS chapters nationwide. While portions of the previous bylaws already referenced elements of a slate-based process, these updates provide clearer guidance and transparency around nominations, petitions, and elections.

Under this process:
•    Any eligible member may self-nominate.
•    Members retain the ability to petition for a candidate to appear on the ballot.
•    If a petition candidate is submitted, the position will go to a membership vote.

These proposed updates are the result of discussions that have taken place over multiple board terms and are intended to better align the chapter’s governance practices with SMPS Headquarters while providing greater clarity around chapter operations and elections.

Overall, these updates are intended to support transparency, continuity, and balanced leadership representation while maintaining opportunities for member participation in the election process.

Thank you for taking the time to review and vote on the proposed Bylaws updates.
